As residents of Exeter would know, the memorial had become compromised by its location, size and point of access. It was largely unnoticeable on ingress to the Park and awkwardly placed with traffic entering directly in front of it. The proposed design has addressed these problems by relocating it to form the centerpiece of the most public part of the Park in front of the newly renovated Village Hall. It has been moved from the least visible location to the most visible location for the maximum number of people. As shown in the attached plans, the Memorial stone will further benefit from a curved sandstone wall as its backdrop. This will help to draw the eye of the passerby. Atop the wall the stone capping will be engraved with the words LEST WE FORGET.
In this format, it will be immediately visible to any visitors to the Park and feasible for everyone to attend an ANZAC Day service around the Memorial.
